Why Choose Organic Baby Food?

In today's world it is imperative we feed our new born children organic baby food. Common sense will tell you that babies and small children are more suseptible to illness, disease and just about anything that can potentially cause harm. Avoid this by sourcing the best organic baby food available or by growing your own organic fruits and organic vegetables.

This is because their immune systems are still developing a resistence to common viruses and bacteria in the environment. Usually vaccinations are administered to babies to help them strengthen their immune systems and resist viruses in the future.

But there are other things parents can do to protect small children from harm, and usually parents go to great lengths to do this. One of the things parents do is to try to achieve the perfect balanced diet for new babies and this they do by purchasing the most trusted brands of formula and organic baby food.

But just because a brand of formula or a food product has a big clientele does not mean their product is the best. It's a tough exercise for parents trying to ensure that children get what they need from food without getting the harmful qualities that many foods carry.

And once again, going the organic baby food way is the most recommended way, particularly where children are concerned. Here are some things you should know about babies, small children and foods.

As children grow older, particularly when babies start requiring solid foods, fruits and vegetables become a stable part of their diet. But these are the same fruits and vegetables that adults eat too and if they are not organically produced, then such foods will contain dangerous levels of pesticide residues.

Research has shown that pesticides contribute to some types of cancers and respiratory illnesses, particularly in children. In addition, animal testing has also indicated that pesticides can cause permanent changes in brain chemistry that may lead to anything from behavioral disorders to learning disabilities to long-term damage to the brain and nervous system.

It has also been shown that pesticides may also block a child's absorption of nutrients that are important for healthy growth and development. Babies and young children are especially vulnerable to pesticides because their organs and nervous system are not fully developed.

Because of this they may absorb pesticides more easily and break them down less easily. Babies and small children are also more vulnerable because they eat more food relative to their body weight than adults, thus they are taking in more pesticide resides than their bodies are bale to handle.

Because of the dangers found in non organic food for babies, The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the U.S sets limits on how much pesticide may be used on crops. These limits are based on how toxic the particular pesticide is, how much pesticide is left on the crop (residue), and how much of the crop babies are likely to eat.

The Food Quality Protection Act further tightened food safety laws by requiring that the residue levels of pesticides be safe for infants and children, taking into account children's special sensitivity to pesticides, however, this does not mean that foods that meet these requirements are still 100% safe.

The fact remains that only some baby food manufactures have removed banned pesticides from their product, but others have not, so unless a baby food is labeled organic, it may well contain pesticides.

At Any rate, the National Academy of Sciences federal still argue that pesticide standards provide too little health protection especially where organic baby food is concerned.
